The setup is not terrible. And Soderbergh explained that Ocean’s Eleven was pulled into a low-rent version. Unfortunately, the movie world seems so wrong. The perspective feels like a New York Times reporter who encourages Kentucky’s dark depths to understand the mind of the brutal Trump voter.
The film wants to humanize its characters, but is determined to think of southern origins because it has done nothing good to get rid of its path. There’s nothing wrong with filling a movie with stupid or incompetent characters. Some of the best comedies (Christopher Guest’s catalog is a brilliant example).
