Tahiti, 1983: The young Tami (Shailene Woodley) can be drifted through life as the hippies used to be. After graduation she has no plans except to get to know the world. And to live like in paradise.
Surf a bit, float around the colorful markets, hang out with a friend. The little money, what they need to live, the young women earn with auxiliary work in the marina. There, Tami meets the slightly older, good-looking and charismatic sailor Richard (Sam Claflin). Now paradise is indeed complete. On Richards self-built ship, they explore lonely islands, enchanted caves and a fateful kinship.
