Bruce Lee deserves better than that. Better. As one of the most important and influential martial artists and action stars of all time, it does not need a fictional “friend” support. If the last part of this scandal is confusing, the new film, The Birth of Dragon, is at odds. What we need to see is how the source of Lee’s rise, competition with Wong Jack Man, and how it came together to shape the on-screen personality that millions of people still love today.
Instead, we had a bad storytelling exercise, shaded by an uncomfortable focus at the same level as some random guy, Steve McKee (Billy Magnussen) and his romantic affairs.
